The
bergamot in flower
|
 |

A good well established patch of St John's Wort |
The
Sanctuary is looking a bit like a wilderness at the moment, but the mullein
and valerian are flowering alongside the St John's wort and some beautiful
red and scarlet bergamot.
I gathered some wood betony, scullcap, valarian and Ladysmantle on the
Sunday morning after the workshop, so the following evening I was busy
putting them all up into tinctures for the winter. The calendula flowers
gathered during the workshop were put to dry on the sofa in the summerhouse.
In a couple of months I shall be able to pull off the petals and store them.
I spent this morning pulling off dried lemon balm leaves from the stalks my
parents gathered for me a month ago. We had to go and remove them from the
sofa on Friday night so everyone had somewhere to sit or put their bags! I
was amazed that two Tesco bags full of dried stalks made 1 Tesco bag full of
leaves which has packed down nicely into two 2lb honey jars. It's amazing
how much you can stuff in if you keep pressing! |
