June 2005
June was our only wet
workshop, made more difficult by the height of grass in the fields leading
down to the Sanctuary, which could not be mown until July. Even so, the rain
only lasted for a short while in the morning and did not dampen enthusiasm
for looking at "Herbs for Women". We started by talking about the menstrual
cycle, its onset and demise and considered the herbs, which can be
especially useful for strengthening the cycle at different times. We tried
agnus castus (Vitex or chaste berry) and lady’s mantle tea (plant pictured
right) and discovered
that adding lemon balm to motherwort reduced the bitterness of the tea. We
also talked about using hawthorn as a fluid regulator, sage and elderflower
for hot flushes and the importance of supporting one’s liver and lymphatics
through the use of dandelion, burdock and cleavers.
